Living For The Weekend + Making Each Day Count

The sunlight is shining through my window today.

This year has been flying by faster than I can keep up with, yet here we are, already almost a full two months into the New Year.

And the sun has finally decided to return.

It's times like these that I wonder if I've been doing enough. If I'm not just going through the motions, but living each day to its fullest.

And when I look at the sun casting it's light through my window, one quote comes to mind.

"Just as the sun is faithful to rise, so too is God's faithfulness."

Seeing the sun again and feeling its warmth reminds me of the reason we're here. To be lights in the darkness. To bring warmth to the freezing. To live every day like it's our last. To dance a little crazier, sing a little louder, and smile a little more often. To enjoy every moment, worshiping our Creator in every move we make. And to never forget that even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise again. He is faithful. He will get you through. Because just as the sun is faithful to rise, so is God's faithfulness.

Recently, a topic came up at my youth group about what it means to "live for the weekend." Thinking about this, I immediately realized that's something I always do: live for the weekend. There's so many times I wake up throughout the week, a whole day of school ahead of me, and think, I just have to get through this day. Just get through this day, Brooklyn, and however many more after, so that you can enjoy the weekend as soon as possible.

Thinking of what it's like to have that mindset, I begin to realize how easily we take each day for granted. Shouldn't we be waking up each morning in utter amazement that God gave us another day with breath in our lungs, people to see, places to go, adventures to have and memories to be made? But... no. Most the time we wake up, use all the will power in us to pull ourselves out of bed and get through the rest of the day. I am so guilty of this.

So how can we not just "live for the weekend," but have joy in our everyday lives? To not just survive but LIVE?

I think step one is to engulf yourself in the Word.

I know very, very well how easy it is to take Scripture for granted. But friend, there is power in reading the Bible. Starting off your day with some personal scripture reading refreshes our soul, and honestly just makes us more ready for the day ahead. Prayer comes into that hugely too, because talking to God about our struggles is huge. Prayer is powerful. And prayer doeschange things. It changes our attitude, our mindset, our outlook on situations, and gives us the comfort and strength to carry on. When we pray, we are talking to God. And I don't think there's even words great enough to express how incredible that is.

It's easy to get through a day and wonder if we had any impact on the world. It's easy to look at famous people from history - or now - and compare ourselves to them, and see ourselves as less important. As just one of the other seven billion.

But friend, you were made with a purpose.

At school, recently we've been reading through Exodus, and this verse stood out to me:

"But, indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth."

Exodus 9:16

This verse brought to mind just two of the many reasons we are here on this earth. To make Christ's power known, and proclaim His name.

A few months ago I wrote a post on how vitally important our lives are, and one little section in that post talked about how much we impact the people around us, a lot of times without even knowing or trying. We ourselves are made up of the fingerprints of other people, and the impact they've had on our lives that have helped shaped us into who we are (another post I'm excited to write, by the way, that has been heavily on my mind!).

I once saw a quote that said, "Set a goal that makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning."

How different our lives would be if that goal were the spread of the Gospel.

Or even if we just recognized the impacts we can have on the world everyday.

Everyday we are given another chance to make someone smile. And sometimes, that's enough. Just make someone smile. Because no one will ever know or understand what someone else is going through. And sometimes, a little laughter is all the encouragement someone needs to get through their day. To see that there still is beauty amidst brokenness. ☺︎

Live for more than the weekend.

Live for Christ.

What's something God's been doing in your life recently? Do you tend to find yourself living for the weekendmore often than not? I'd love to hear from you in the comments <3
